”When I was born I had too little oxygen in my brain, I think that’s unfair” says Yvonne. She’s sharing her story on the main stage of Svenska Teatern in Helsinki. She is doing this for the audience to understand her better and get ”some homework for thought” to bring with them home.
Yvonne was one of the leading actors in the successplay In the big landscape – the fairytale about a family, by DuvTeatern that was played at Svenska Teatern in Helsinki 2019-2020. The play was hailed by critics and loved by the audience.
DuvTeatern is a theatre group consisting of people with and without intellectual disabilities and Yvonne has been a member of the group since 2002.
In the film Yvonne we get to know her as a private person. We see her strong drive to act on stage, her stage-fright and creativity, her relation to her mother Ulla and her friendship with her sister Nenne, who is so alike her and yet so different.
Yvonne is also sharing her unique family photoalbums with us. Her father Ralf Heins, originally from Germany, was a very talented hobbyphotographer. Ralf passed away in 2010 but he is present in the film throug his photos and cinefilms. Yvonnes father filmed and photographed his daughters as they grew up and his footage gives a unique insight into what it was like to grow up with a disability in Finland in the 60s.
The music in the film is from the play In the bid landscape, it’s composed by Markus Fagerudd and performed by Wegelius kammarstråkar and the orchestra Resonaarigroup. The songlyrics are written by actors from DuvTeatern.
